Overall, you can think of the first session as a structured assessment that helps me get to know you and the challenges you have had that brought you into treatment. I’ll invite you to share more about yourself, and we will talk about what’s worked or not worked in you previous treatment.
Some questions that I like to ask during a first session include:
- What brought you to therapy?
- Have you gone to therapy before? How did that go?
- What are your top three goals for treatment?
Feel free to ask me questions, as you may be curious about my experience or how future sessions work.
The most important part of a first session is to notice how you feel during and after the session. If you feel welcome, secure, and at peace with me, we will discuss if you’d like to schedule another appointment.
