I’m nervous about starting therapy. Is that normal?
Therapy is a space where you can be yourself, even if you are nervous. I’m committed to finding a way to support you so that you are as comfortable as possible.
I hope you schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation today.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
During a free phone consultation, you can ask me questions about my approach. You’ll also be able to share about yourself so we can determine if I might be of service to you.
It’s a good idea to use the first few sessions to make sure we are a good fit. During the first few sessions, you’ll get an idea of how counseling works, and you will figure out if you are comfortable working with me. My approach is not going to work for everyone. What’s most important to me is that you find someone who you feel is the right fit for you. We can explore that together.
What if I don't want to talk about something?
If you are nervous about opening up, we can talk about that too. It is important that you share what you are going through so we can explore that together.
I’m scared that if I open up, you will judge me.
You’re a good person. Nothing you can say will cause me to judge you.
I know nobody’s perfect. We all struggle. We are humans having human experiences in a rapidly changing world.
Whatever it is you’re going through, I promise to listen with focus, compassion, and nonjudgment.
Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?
Your privacy and trust are of utmost importance. Rest assured that you can talk about anything without fear of that information being divulged.
If you have specific questions about how confidentiality works, we can discuss them during your free phone consultation or anytime during our work together.
What can I expect to get out of therapy?
Depending on the reasons you are seeking out therapy, what you can expect to get out of therapy differs. Generally, my clients are seeking clarity around a certain issue, want to break the cycle of bad habits, or need advice and counsel about a current life situation. Whatever is going on for you, hopefully therapy will make it easier by providing clarity, relief, confidence, or whatever you feel you need at this time.

How long will therapy take?
If this is true for you, know that new clients often start seeing positive effects after the first six sessions. It can feel like a relief to have someone listen to you, understand your experiences, and normalize what you are going through.
The total duration of therapy varies from client to client. Some of my clients find that 6 – 8 sessions are enough to resolve immediate challenges. While other clients feel more supported by longer-term therapy.
We will work together to find the length of time that works for you.
What can I expect during the first session?
Some questions that I like to ask during a first session include:
- What brought you to therapy?
- Have you gone to therapy before? How did that go?
- What are your top three goals for treatment?
Feel free to ask me questions, as you may be curious about my experience or how future sessions work.
The most important part of a first session is to notice how you feel during and after the session. If you feel welcome, secure, and at peace with me, we will discuss if you’d like to schedule another appointment.
